The course is on snowmobile trails 212B and 212CC. Approximately 7 km is along the ditch adjacent to highway 264 and highway 2. The remaining 53 km is comprised of beautiful, twisty, hilly, tree-lined trails, occasionally interspersed with small lakes. This is lakeland country at its finest.
To find the start/finish line: As you drive into Elkridge Resort, there is a sign indicating "snowmobile trail access". Turn right here and go past the church. You will see the toboggan hill parking area, stop sign, and another sign that states "Snowmobile Trail. No vehicles beyond this point". This is the start area.
Once we depart, the first 2 km will be through the trees before we arrive at McPhee Lake. We will continue straight and cross the McPhee Lake Road (not the highway!) and continue in the ditch, paralleling highway 264 until we almost reach LT's gas station. Before LT's, we will cross highway 264 (caution!) and continue in the ditch on the other side, now going south along highway 2. We continue in the ditch of highway 2 for approximately 2 km before there is a major junction turning west. We will take this junction and continue on snowmobile trail 212 CC. This next section is very hilly and possibly bumpy if we don't have much snow. Use caution. At the junction of trail 212 CC and 212 B, this is your first bail-out point. If you are continuing, then turn left and continue to Sundogs for either the relay exchange (teams) or the turn-around point (solo). The sled dogs will likely greet you upon arrival unless they are all out on the trail. For the return trip, once you get to the junction, turn left and continue for 3.4 km to the highway. Cross the highway and follow the tree-lined trail back to the start/finish line.
This trail is very distinctive but please do pay attention.
The trail will be quite firm unless we receive a bunch of snow during the event or in the few days previous. It will be packed by snowmobiles and by the Lakeland Snowmobile Club's piston bully. Skiers should note that there will be no classic track.
Please print a copy of the map and carry it with you.
